A dry-type transformer is a type of transformer that does not use liquid cooling agents. Unlike traditional oil-immersed transformers, dry-type transformers use air as the cooling medium, thus eliminating the safety hazards such as oil leakage and explosion.

In simple terms, a dry-type transformer refers to a transformer whose core and windings are not impregnated with insulating oil.
