GLASS-FIBER WOUND WIRE Glass-fiber wound wire (often called "silk-wrapped wire") is a high-performance magnet wire made by mechanically winding glass fibers around a bare copper or aluminum conductor to form the primary insulation.

The wound fibers are then impregnated with insulating varnish (such as silicone resin) and baked, creating a solid, integrated insulation layer with excellent mechanical strength.

Positioned between enameled wire and paper-covered wire, glass-fiber wound wire combines the outstanding heat resistance of glass fiber with the sealing and protective properties of insulating varnish, making it an essential material for modern high-reliability electrical equipment operating under high voltage, high temperature, and other demanding conditions.

MAIN CLASSIFICATIONS Based on the shape of the conductor and the insulation structure, glass-fiber wound wire is mainly divided into the following categories: BY CONDUCTOR SHAPE: Round Wire: The conductor has a circular cross-section, often used for small coils or lead wires.

Rectangular (Flat) Wire: The conductor has a rectangular cross-section. This is the most widely used type currently, as it allows for tight packing and efficient heat dissipation. BY INSULATION STRUCTURE: Single Wound Wire: A single layer of glass fiber is wound around the conductor.

Double Wound Wire: Two layers of glass fiber are wound, providing a higher voltage resistance rating.

With GB/T 7672.1 KEY CHARACTERISTICS Glass-fiber wound wire is irreplaceable in heavy industry due to the following characteristics: EXCELLENT HEAT RESISTANCE: Glass fiber itself has superb heat resistance.

When combined with high-temperature varnish (e.g., silicone), the thermal class of the wire can typically reach Class 180 (H Class) or even higher, far exceeding that of ordinary enameled wire.

HIGH MECHANICAL STRENGTH: Glass fiber has high tensile strength, effectively protecting the conductor from damage during winding, embedding, and operational vibrations.

CORONA AND HIGH-VOLTAGE RESISTANCE: Compared to the insulating varnish film, the glass fiber layer is thicker and denser, enabling it to withstand higher voltage surges. It is especially suitable for high-voltage motors.
